The Rag Trade is a British television sitcom transmitted by the BBC between 1961 and 1963.
The scripts were by Ronald Wolfe and Ronald Chesney, who later wrote Wild, Wild Women, a period variation of The Rag Trade'.
The action centred on a small clothing workshop (the title associates with the textile industry), Fenner Fashions in London. Although run by Harold Fenner (Peter Jones) and Reg the foreman (Reg Varney), the female workers are led by militant shop steward Paddy (Miriam Karlin), ever ready to strike, with the catchphrase "Everybody out!" Other cast members included Sheila Hancock (as Carole), Esma Reese Cannon (as Brother Lil), Wanda Ventham (as Shirley) and Barbara Windsor (as Judy).
The Rag Trade was revived by ITV company LWT in 1977, with Jones and Karlin reprising their roles. The 1977 version ran for two series and featured Anna Karen (reprising her role as Olive from On The Buses) and future EastEnders star Gillian Taylforth as factory workers.
The theme tune for the 70s LWT series was written and performed by Lynsey De Paul.

Despite the BBC's Wiping policy of the 1970s, only 21 of the original 36 episodes of the original 60s BBC TV series Exist in the BBC Archvies
All 10 episodes, in the original BBC Season 1, are on DVD (DD Home Entertainment).
The 11 surviving episodes of 13, in the original BBC Season 2, are on DVD (DD Home Entertainment). Two are not broadcast standard and are included as 'Extras' due to the low quality of the print.
All 13 episodes in the original BBC Season 3, still remain "missing presumed wiped"
Cinema Club has bought the rights to the original BBC series of the show and are re-releasing all 10 episodes of the original BBC Season 1 with all 11 of the 13 episodes of the origial BBC Season 2 to follow including a box set containing all 21 surviving episodes of the original BBC series in a descending order on DVD by "the shows 50th anniversary" in 2011

Pleasure Island (Pinocchio) for Candy Co...

Pleasure Island is the name used in the Disney film adaptation of The Adventures of Pinocchio for the fictional location called Land of Toys (Italian: Paese dei Balocchi) in the original novel. The size and nature of such location is unclear (the Disney adaptation depicts it as an amusement park, whereas the novel implies it is at least as large as a township); the ambiguity in the original name (paese can mean country or land, but also town or village) adds to the confusion.
Located in the fictional land of Cocagne (also referred to in the text as the Land of Boobies), Pleasure Island serves as a haven for wayward boys, allowing them to act as they please without recrimination. However, the truer and more sinister purpose of Pleasure Island is eventually revealed as it begins to physically transform the boys into donkeys.
The Land of Toys in the Novel
The original take to the Land of Toys mixes the aspects of a morality tale with those of social critique. Boys are lured there by the promise of never having to go to school again and being able to spend their whole time having fun - as a result, almost as a natural consequence, they become donkeys (in Italian culture, the donkey is symbolic of ignorance and stupidity).
When framed in the context of the late 1800s, the chapters set in the Land of Toys also serve as social commentary: abandoning school means securing oneself a future with no other chance to make a living but hard labor, and there are plenty of people (like the ruthless coachman) who will try and take advantage of that.
Pleasure Island in the Disney Film
The segment from Pleasure Island in the film version is much more of a morality tale. The boys who are taken to the island go voluntarily with the promise of fun and unlimited freedom. While on the island, the children are encouraged to commit acts of vandalism, fight, drink beer, smoke cigars, and gamble - all things that good little boys are not supposed to do. The nature of the coachman and of Pleasure Island itself is shown as more preternatural and inherently evil.
The transformation into a donkey is not instantaneous. When boys arrive on the island, they remain human for some time before showing any signs of the curse changing them. The first indication is braying replacing the boy's normal laughter, followed by the growth of donkey ears and a tail. The head, torso, and extremities come next, after which the boy is then forced into a quadrupedial stance. The final notable change is losing the ability to speak. Before the donkeys leave Pleasure Island, they are checked to make sure they have lost their ability to vocalize, which signifies they are fully transformed.
When The Coachman tests out the donkeys, he does many things to them. The ones that can no longer vocalize are stripped bare of their clothes, chucked into wooden crates and then sent on to salt mines or circuses. The ones that can talk are taken back to a pen where other talking donkeys plead for mercy. The Coachman has to either keep them on the island until they lose their vocalization or their death.
In the 1940 Disney version, Pleasure Island also has an impact on Geppetto: the puppet maker learns that Pinocchio is on Pleasure Island, and sets out to sea to find him, only to be swallowed along with his whole boat by Monstro the Whale.
Trivia
The Pleasure Island theme was taken up again by science fiction author Cory Doctorow in his short story "Return to Pleasure Island", where it is told from the perspective of cotton-candy-vending Golems.
The 1990 film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles appears to pay tribute to Pleasure Island by showing an underground lair with drinking, smoking, gambling, and showing wayward teenagers engaging in more modern forms of fun such as blasting offensive music and playing video games. The only skills that are taught are martial arts and how to move stolen goods. The Shredder's lieutenant, Tatsu, is ruthless in his martial arts classes, but otherwise not bothering the teenagers when they are not learning fighting and crime. When one kid bumped into him, Tatsu clearly brushed it off as an honest mistake and simply said to the boy "Go, play."

Mosler Automotive is an American supercar manufacturer based in Florida and St Ives, Cambridgeshire, England, founded by Warren Mosler in 1985. It currently produces the MT900R racer and the street-legal MT900S, as well as several unique project vehicles.

In 1985, Warren Mosler, a bond trader who manages a hedge fund with $5 billion under management, started a company called Consulier Industries and introduced the Consulier GTP, a 2200 lb. mid-engined car powered by a mid-mounted turbocharged Chrysler 2.2L engine producing 190hp. The chassis was a fiberglass-and-foam monocoque. Mosler was so confident in the performance of his creation that he first offered a $25,000 bounty to anyone who could pilot a street-legal production car around any US racetrack faster than a Consulier GTP. Car and Driver took up the challenge, racing a pre-production prototype "stock" Chevrolet Corvette (not even a ZR-1) around the Chrysler Proving Grounds racetrack in Chelsea, Michigan. Antoine and Csaba Csere took three laps each in the Corvette and a 1988 Consulier GTP Series I Sport. Both had similar lap times in each car, with the Corvette's best lap at 1:21.01 and the Consulier's best at 1:22.56. They felt that the Consulier was "difficult to han
dle," with "anemic" brakes. Confronted with this test, Warren Mosler claimed that the test car was older and worn out. In fact, the Consulier they got was from a Track Time Driver's School with very worn tires and worn brake pads, no interior trim, and three cigarette lighters which were specially installed so Track Time could plug in their equipment. Mosler offered to send his driver with new brake pads and agreed to pay the $25,000 if the Consulier didn't lap faster that the Corvette. Car and Driver refused, saying it might be faster because of the driver. Mosler told them they could use any driver they wanted for their car, but to have them drive the Consulier and get paid if they lost was a conflict of interest. Car and Driver refused and took it as an insult and subsequently published a negative article where they ridiculed the interior, the three lighter plugs, and compared the overall fit and finish negatively with a new Datsun ZX. They also claimed that Mosler defaul
ted on his promise.To back up his claims, Mosler raised the challenge to $100,000 which was won by Chet Filip in the Consulier as Mosler predicted at the Sebring road course. The Consulier GTP competed successfully in many races for the next six years, before being banned by the IMSA in 1991. Overall, 100 Consulier GTPs were produced.
In the early 1990s, Consulier also developed environmentally friendly vehicles, including electric cars, composite-bodied cargo vans, and small city-car commuter vehicles.
In 1993, Consulier Industries sold its automotive division to Mosler Automotive and changed its name to Consulier Engineering. Consulier Engineering (NASDAQ:CSLR) through its subsidiary Patient Care Technology Systems markets the Amelior TM patient care systems which are data based integrated emergency room information systems and passive tracking systems. Additionally, through its subsidiary Consulier International, it markets Captain Cra-z Hand and ALL Purpose Cleaner and through its affiliate, Biosafe, develops and markets environmentally safe products as alternatives to traditionally toxic pesticides.
The newly named Mosler Automotive introduced the Intruder, a rebodied Consulier with a new 300hp GM LT1 engine. This car raced at the 24 hours of Nelson Ledges for two consecutive years, winning both years - unfortunately, the Intruder was also banned after its dominating 1993-4 performances. In 1996, an Intruder modified by Lingenfelter Performance Engineering to yield 450hp won Car and Driver's One Lap of America. It too was banned after three victories.
In 1997 the Intruder was given a v-shaped windshield that reduced drag, and renamed the Raptor, once again winning the 1997 One Lap of America. It also went on to win the 1999 One Lap. The Raptor entered in the 1997 One Lap weighed 2773lb (1,258kg) and had 443hp (330kW) from a Lingenfelter modified 6.3L V8 engine.
In 2001, an all-new Mosler debuted - the Mosler MT900. This carbon-fiber chassis, rear wheel drive supercar was designed by using Siemens advanced design software, and used a 350hp (261kW), mid-mounted GM LS1 engine. An early prototype MT900S, despite being 390 pounds (177kg) heavier and having 65hp (49kW) less power than the production version could achieve a 0-60mph time of 3.5 seconds, and a quarter-mile time of 12 seconds flat. Since then, the MT900 has undergone several revisions to become the 2005 MT900S, which has 435hp (324kW) from its Corvette Z06-derived LS-6 V8, powering a 2,500lb (1136kg) car (without fuel). A Photon variant is available which adds a Hewland transmission, thinwall subframes, BBS magnesium wheels, titanium springs, and carbon fiber seats and bodywork, reducing the car's mass to 1,980 lb (900kg). MotorTrend with its guest hot shoe, Le Mans winner Justin Bell, behind the wheel reported a 0-60 time of 3.1 seconds, a standing quarter-mile time of 11.72
seconds and a standing mile time of 30.4 seconds. In addition to breaking acceleration records, Motor Trend also reported 60-0 braking in 100 feet, braking from 100-0 in 275 feet and the ultimate test, 0-100-0 in 10.98 seconds, breaking the 11.15 second record previously held by the McLaren F1 LM. It was discovered after the Motor Trend test that the Mosler MT900 test car had a faulty O2 sensor and was very down on power.
Introduced concurrently was the MT900R, a race prepared version of the MT900. In 2003, the MT900R won the GTS Division of the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona. In Europe, the MT900R has successfully raced and won in the British GT Championship, FIA GT Tourist Trophy races, International Open GT Championship, Britcar Championship, Spanish GT Championship as well as selected races in other series. In 2008, The Mosler Dutch Supercar Challenge, an MT900R only race series ran its inaugural event at the famed Nburgring F1 track.
Mosler has also produced several one-off project vehicles, including a six wheel custom Jeep that uses many GM components (dubbed the J-10 Sport) and the TwinStar, a Cadillac Eldorado boasting twin Northstar V-8s.

Opened in 1994, the largely museum-like War Memorial of Korea in Yongsan-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, South Korea offers visitors an educational, yet emotional experience of the many wars in which Korea was involved. Many documents and war memorabilia have been collected and are displayed. The War Memorial has several display rooms and an outdoor exhibition center displaying military equipment.

Overview

Outside Exhibition Area
Illustrating the turbulent times of Korea throughout its history, the War Memorial houses six exhibition rooms displaying over 13,000 items under different themes, including an outside exhibition area consisting of numerous military equipment. Visitors will experience the spirit of national defense of Koreans throughout the War Memorial, which was designed with advice from military experts.
Aim
The Korean peninsula has seen many wars among and within its states as well as intrusions from neighboring powers. Over the centuries, the southern states slowly seized territory from the neighbouring states and peoples such as the Jurchen, driving the border north and consolidating the peninsula under a single state, suffering several invasions that its allies helped to overcome. The War Memorial was built to commemorate actors and victims in the wars which led to the modern nation state. The museum also has the purpose of educating future generations by collecting, preserving, and exhibiting various historical relics and records related to the many wars fought in the country from a South Korean perspective.
Construction
The construction of the War Memorial of Korea was completed in December 1993. The project was carried in consultation with war experts while collecting a wide range of exhibition items at home and from abroad. Upon the completion of the interior the War Memorial of Korea opened officially on June 10, 1994, and became the largest landmark of its kind in the world.
Surrounding area

Statue of Brothers
Located on the old site of Army Headquarters, the War Memorial of Korea accommodates four aboveground floors and two underground floors in the main building, which stands on an area of about 20,000 square meters. On the green area around the memorial, loudspeaker emissions to foster patriotic spirit can be heard.
In cloistered left and right galleries flanking the facade of the main building are rows of black marble monuments inscribed with the names of those who died during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and of policemen who died on duty. The plaza in the museum compound has an artificial waterfall, and around it are widespread rest areas so that visitors can picnic while enjoying the pleasant landscape. In the center of the plaza stands the Statue of Brothers, the elder a South Korean soldier and the younger a North Korean soldier, which symbolizes the situation of Korea's division.
Exhibition areas

An exhibition hall
13,000 items are displayed in its six halls under different themes: Memorial Hall, War History, Korean War, Expeditionary Forces Room, ROK Armed Forces Room, and Large Equipment Room, plus the outside exhibition area. Displayed are various weapons and equipment from prehistoric times to the modern period as well as paintings of battlefields and sculptures of notable warriors and An Jung-geun, who assassinated a former Resident-General in Manchuria in 1909. About 100 large weapons are displayed in the outside exhibition area on the lawns around the building.
Memorial Hall
Upon entering the memorial halls, this English text is inscribed:
Inscribed on this memorial is the names of the Republic of Korea Armed Forces Soldiers and Policemen killed in the Armed Forces Activation, Korean War, Vietnam War and Counter Infiltration Operation and the United Nations Forces Soldiers killed in the Korean War.
Combat Experience Room
The Combat Experience Room provides a special opportunity for visitors to vividly experience life and death situations in night combat which soldiers went through during the Korean War. The special audiovisual effects, lighting, vibration, and even gunpowder odor make visitors feel as if they are right on the battlefield.

History
Del Castillo began as a latin flamenco-style project between two brothers, Rick and Mark del Castillo in the fall of 2000. The brothers, who had always played electric guitar in separate rock bands, had never played together and for the first time ever they began collaborating on songs on acoustic guitars. Their parents had never been able to relate to their music, rock -blues in Rick's case, rock and some metal in Mark's, so the two decided to record some music together that their family could listen and relate to. Their good friend, vocalist/guitarist Alex Ruiz, began adding lyrics to the brothers instrumentals, and soon after, the other band members joined them. Rick recruited his friend Albert Besteiro, Jr., on bass and Mark brought in drummer Mike Zeoli from their other joint project, Milhouse. The last member to join was Rick "The Rev" Holeman on percussion. After receiving positive and encouraging responses from everyone who heard the songs they created together, the p
roject began to evolve into a real band. They began playing regularly around the Austin area, most notably the Tuesday night slot at Momo's. The intensity of the band's live performance centers around the two guitar-playing brothers. Though not flamenco players by training, the two have proven to be equal to the likes of the Gypsy Kings, and Strunz and Farah. The speed, accuracy and expertise of these two, backed by an amazingly strong rhythm section, and fronted by the enigmatic Ruiz, draws fans and newcomers to the foot of the stage almost every performance.
With the line-up complete, Del Castillo began writing material, fusing many styles and influences, all while retaining a solid latin element. The band released their debut CD Brothers of the Castle in 2001, which met with rave reviews from critics and music fans alike. As the once "project band" solidified into a family of musicians, the band crafted their follow-up release, Vida, which took the band to the next level. And recognition, if not fame, came calling in the form of an invitation to appear on the soundtrack of director Robert Rodruez's Once Upon a Time in Mexico and the honor of winning "Best Austin Band of the Year" at the 2002-2003 Austin Music Awards.
The Del Castillo Live DVD, filmed and edited by Robert Rodruez, was released in early 2004. Filmed at the famous Steamboat Springs on 6th St in Austin, it captured the fire and intensity of their live performances. Also that year, Quentin Tarantino used a Del Castillo song in Kill Bill Vol. 2, performed by Chingon, Robert Rodruez musical collective of some of his closest musical compadres, including members of Del Castillo. Del Castillo, with Robert, performed as Chingon at the premier of the film in Los Angeles.
In the Spring of 2006 Del Castillo released their third CD, Brotherhood, which it was immediately acclaimed by the media across the board. In late 2006 Rick Holeman decided to retire from the band, and the group found a new percussionist, Carmelo Torres, to take his spot. Hailing from Los Angeles, but now living in Austin, Carmelo has proven a strong addition to the band, as musician and songwriter. The years 2007 and 2008 have found the group touring extensively, playing coast to coast, including many festivals. Wherever they go, they bring back more fans, and the legend continues to grow. Hopefully the Spring 2009 will see the release of their new studio album, and perhaps a new live DVD/CD.

Ever since I can remember, music has filled my heart and soul. From my humble beginnings of banging on trash cans at the age of six to touring across the country all through my twenties, music was my one constant companion. I've delved in many genres but playing spanish/ flamenco music on a nylon guitar with my brother and four other dear friends seems to fuel my muse to infinite measures. All I've learned through my 24 years of playing, touring, producing and engineering has led me to this point. ~Rick del Castillo~
Mark del Castillo Guitar/Vocals
Mark del Castillo grew up in the Rio Grande Valley city of Brownsville, Texas surrounded by the many musical influences of his family. Inspired by the talent and success of his older brother Rick del Castillo, he began to immerse himself in the study of guitar at age 14. Mark was a self-taught guitarist until he became a Music Major at the University of Texas at Brownsville in 1990. At that time he studied Music Theory, Ear Training, and Applied Guitar as well as joining the University Latin/Jazz band. In 1991, at the age of 19, he joined a cover band called Kickstart and began to build a reputation for himself as a guitarist. After playing with Kickstart for over three years, Mark moved away to pursue further education in Biomedical Science at Texas A&M University. While a student there, he and some friends formed a cover band called Vivid. After graduating in 1996, Mark and Vivid relocated to Austin, Texas and began to play regularly on the world-renowned 6th Street Cir
cuit, various other cities in Texas, and even in Europe. While playing in Vivid, he joined his first original rock band called Milhouse. This was his first collaboration with Mike Zeoli (Del Castillo's drummer). On the first Milhouse CD, which his brother Rick recorded and produced, Mark recorded an instrumental latin track entitled ara Mija Linda showcasing his flamenco-style Spanish guitar playing. This song became a huge inspiration for him to return to his roots and write more Spanish guitar music. After composing several instrumentals, Mark began working with Alex Ruiz to add lyrics to some of the songs. Mark presented these songs to his brother Rick, who, realizing that they had never worked together, suggested that the Del Castillo brothers combine their creative forces and talents. Mark realized that this is the music that is true to his heart, in his soul, and will always live within him.

A stagepin twofer
A twofer is a cabling device used in theatrical stage lighting. It allows two stage lighting instruments to be connected to one dimmer. It is wired in parallel, such that voltage is consistent throughout the circuit, and current is shared between the two instruments. Twofers can be used in conjunction with cables with the same types of connectors. The name is a corruption of the phrase "Two For One".
UK terminology
The UK equivalent of the twofer is a Grelco. The name derives from the manufacturer of the original examples, but is now generally adopted for all examples regardless of manufacturer. It typically relates to a splitter for the UK 15A power connections commonly used for stage lighting. It is usually an integral block rather than a plug with two cables leading to two sockets. Where a single plug goes to 3 or more sockets it is sometimes known as a Trelco.
Typically for most other power connector types used in theatre, the term (2-way) splitter is used.

The Mondeo is Ford's successor to the Sierra - and this year's European Car of the Year. It comes with a range of 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 petrol engines as well as a 1.8 turbo-diesel, with a 2.5 V6 to follow next year. All models get power steering, driver's airbag, anti-lock brakes, electric front windows and a radio/cassette player as standard. Some models also have extras such as alloy wheels, passenger airbag, air-conditioning and leather upholstery as standard. After three years of falling behind Vauxhall's Cavalier, Ford appears to have come up with the answer of regaining pole position in the large family car sector. Also for Ford in 1993 they have decided to call time on the Orion, and after 10 years of the models independence in September this year it will join the Escort range from what it was originally created.
Rover has expanded its range with the launch of the 600 Series, a compact executive saloon which competes with the likes of the BMW 3 Series but is actually based upon the more downmarket Honda Accord. It uses Rover's own 1.8 and 2.0 16-valve K Series engines, and comes with a luxurious interior as well as a stylish exterior. It is not a sports saloon in the same vein as the BMW 3 Series, but as an affordable luxury cruiser it has few peers.
Vauxhall has replaced the decade-old Nova with the completely new Corsa. It is a stylish compact hatchback which has a surprisingly spacious interior, as well as being cheap to buy and run. Its 1.0, 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6 petrol engines are not particularly strong-performing, but offer strong fuel economy - as does the 1.5 turbo-diesel which debuted in the Nova three years ago.
Following the insolvency of DAF NV (see the Netherlands section), Leyland DAF went into receivership. Two new independent British companies were established as the result of management buyouts of the respective parts of the old company: Leyland Trucks in Leyland, Lancashire took over the UK truck manufacturing interests, and LDV Limited in Birmingham took over the van making business.
France
The Peugeot 306 is successor to the 309 and is the second phase in the gradual demise of the long-running and hugely popular 205, though it is closer in size to the 309. It comes with 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 petrol engines as well as an impressively refined and economical 1.9 diesel. Equipment levels are good, with most models getting power steering, driver's airbag and electric front windows as standard equipment. It is also a more attractively styled car than the likes of the Ford Escort and Vauxhall/Opel Astra, but its key strengths are its excellent ride and handling as well as its impressive diesel units. The car's chassis is derived from the Citroen ZX, which went on sale two years ago.
PSA has also strengthened its position in the large family car sector with the launch of the all-new Xantia, a five-door hatchback which replaces the 11-year-old BX. It is slightly larger than its predecessor, and comes with a decent range of economical and smooth-riding petrol and diesel engines. Its most distinctive feature is the standard inclusion of self-levelling oleo-pneumatic suspension which in true Citroen fashion gives it a unique feature in a mainstream market.
Renault has responded to new launches from the likes of Citroen and Ford by bringing out an all-new family car to replace its ageing R21. The Laguna is a stylish, spacious and comfortable five-door hatchback which comes with 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 petrol engines as well as impressively refined and economical 1.9 and 2.2 turbo-diesel units. The hatchback is the only current model in the new Laguna range, though an estate version is due at a later date to succeed the R21-based Savanna.
Germany
Mercedes-Benz has pulled the plug on ten years of 190E production and launched an all-new competitor for the BMW 3 Series. The C-Class is a four-door compact executive saloon with classy styling inside and out. It is slightly more expensive that most similar-sized cars, but its premium price is justified by high levels of equipment, refinement and quality.
Sweden
Saab has launched an all-new version of its hugely popular 900 range, 14 years after the original version was launched. The new Saab 900 uses the same chassis as the current Vauxhall Cavalier/Opel Vectra, but is a far more distinctively-styled car. It perpetuates the traditional Saab virtues of individuality, safety, quality and refinement, while offering a good level of ride comfort and driver appeal.
Spain
SEAT, the Spanish subsidisary of Volkswagen, has introduced an all-new version of the Ibiza supermini to give it a long-awaited credible rival for the class-leading likes of the Renault Clio and Peugeot 106. Styled by world famous Italian designer Giugiaro, the latest Ibiza is a far cry from its predecessor. Stylish, well-equipped and fun to drive, its build quality is much improved and just shows how successful Volkswagen has been in rejuvenating the previously downmarket SEAT brand. Power comes from 1.0, 1.4 and 1.6 petrol engines as well as a 1.9 diesel. All of these units will find their way into the forthcoming new Volkswagen Polo, while the larger two petrol engines will also power the Cordoba - a four-door saloon based on the Ibiza running gear.
Netherlands
DAF NV became insolvent. DAF Trucks was re-established as an independent truck maker following a management buyout of the Dutch interests of the company. Similar actions occurred in the UK (see the United Kingdom section) with respect to the company's British arm Leyland DAF.

Flavored liquors are distilled alcoholic beverages with added flavorings. They are distinct from liqueurs in that liqueurs have a high sugar content, whereas flavored liquors contain no added sugar. They can either start with a base of white rum or vodka, both of which are known for having little taste of their own, or with a brandy, as is the case with Arak, which already has its own flavor. Flavoring is added at the distillery. The most expensive flavored liquors use essences of fruit much like a perfume would, except in larger quantities. A relatively new method introduced in the late 1990s involves sugar syrup and fruit extract.[citation needed]

Video Paintings are a form of ambient video art presented via projectors, LCD or other flat panel display and wall-mounted in the same manner as traditional paintings. Content in this emergent form is designed to work at all times as either a highly aware foreground experience, or as passive background pieces of art. There is no sound accompaniment, it is only video. The concept of video paintings borrows from Brian Eno's idea of ambient music in works ust be able to accommodate many levels of listening attention without enforcing one in particular; it must be as ignorable as it is interesting."
Like traditional paintings, video paintings hang on the wall to be viewed or passed over - depending on individual viewer preference in the moment.
Description
Flatscreen technologies such as plasma, LCD, DLP and the up and coming OLED displays, are on the cusp of exploding in terms of marketplace penetration. Currently, the market offers both existing hybrid (video projection boxes) and true flatscreen technologies, and video art projections using cutting-edge projection technology. Even as these devices are being steadily introduced to our domestic and creative cultural spheres, more revolutionary technologies are being developed and implemented. Bill Buxton (University of Toronto, former chief scientist for Alias Wave Front and Silicon Graphics) maintains that gel, thin film, and painted surface video technologies are the inevitable next step in this development. Massively large scale moving images, beyond anything we have experienced, will be part of our everyday lives. As a result our domestic (and public) visual spaces will be profoundly transformed.
There are several artists and designers who are producing video paintings and ambient art that is intended to repurpose the blank space of an idle flatscreen. In addition to this there is an ever increasing number of companies specialising in video paintings to varying degrees. Companies such as Plasma Window, Vat19, Digital Hotcakes have all contributed to this growing phenomenon often providing the archetypal classical ambient video paintings. These companies and increasingly other artists and companies are expanding the availability of this genre. Ambient Digital Art [(http://www.ambientdigital.co.uk)] have evolved the concept to more specialised markets including bespoke personalised service additionally with expansion into the realm of generative art.
TransLumen Technologies [(http://www.translumen.net)] was founded in 2000 and applied for patents on imperceptibly different images or Subthreshold Extreme Gradual Change (STEGC) also called Fluid Stills Art Illusions. These patents were subsequently awarded and additional patents filed. TransLumen creates and provides ambient video DVD, HD and custom installations. They specialize in ultra-slow-motion technology and video painting.
Jim Bizzocchi (http://www.dadaprocessing.com), an artist and Assistant Professor at Simon Fraser University's School of Interactive Arts and Technology, describes the new form: "Ambient video will emerge as a supremely pictorial form - relying on visual impact and the subtle manipulation of image, layer, flow, and transition. It sits in the visual background of our lives - always changing, but never too quickly. It does not conquer, it seduces. It rewards attention, but never commands it. Rather, its aim is to support whatever level of attention the viewer cares to bestow in the moment: a passing glance, a more intentional look, or a longer and deeper immersion within the dynamically changing experience of an ambient video world." Bizzochi must be credited with advancing the academic study of this phenomenon from his earliest papers on streaming video and other academic papers on video paintings.
NomIg. (http://www.nomig.net) were among the first to create video paintings with their 2001 piece d Infinitum. Working as audiovisual artists, the NomIg. duo questioned what would happen if the concepts of Eno's ambient works were applied to the visual domain. As a result their works place paramount importance on fluidity of movement; an absence of direct cuts/edits; and the removal of a linear time experience for the viewer. Their video paintings are centered on near-imperceptible movement where the works cause the viewer to question whether there is any movement at all. Upon a passing glance the work appears to be still - it is only after a returning glance or concentrated awareness that the motion of the piece reveals itself. Their work takes a fleeting second and expands it into a timeless contemplation of the moment. To achieve their extreme slow motion NomIg. have heavily researched and developed editing techniques which layer and blend frames while not succumbing to t
he artifacts of the standard digital slow motion process (jerky movement, blurry content). The actual duration of their paintings often exceeds 3 hours and are regularly produced in 1080p HD format. They are seamless loops.
In 2003, while curating the audiovisual component of the New Forms Festival (http://www.newformsfestival.com), the nomigs met Bizzocchi and quickly formed an alliance. Bizzocchi's "Rockface" was used as the intermission piece during the aforementioned audiovisual evening in place of traditional intermission background music thereby playing with the conventional structure of the ambient paradigm. 2004 saw NomIg. and Bizzocchi team up to curate a video painting exhibition at the 2004 New Forms Festival.
Believing that this infant art form needs to develop a strong community, NomIg. developed a dedicated video painting & ambient video resource (http://www.videopainting.org) in an effort to grow the video painting community as well as offer a resource for those looking for information about video painting in general.
2007 sees NomIg. continue to advance the video painting form with a newly developed slow-motion technique; artistic manipulation of the display device itself; as well as the integration of the display device into sculptural works.
Visual artist Jeffers Egan (http://www.jeffersegan.com) has been working with the video painting medium for some time, producing works described as references to Rothko and Pollock.
Malcolm Daniel (who was involved in the New Forms Festival exhibition mentioned below) has recently started producing a series of work as well. To the rich tapestry of ambient video, Malcolm Daniel adds commentary on culture and society with his Video Paintings. Filmed on location in India, Malcolm works speak to the integration of society and spiritualism that is so prominent to the region. The cultural significance of this relationship is explored through layering and slow motion effects which serve to foster an ethereal and meditative presence for the viewer.
An early pioneer of the ambient video art movement and video painting is Douglas R. Siefken. His first public exhibit of the Fluid Stills artform was sponsored by Sony on 02/02/02 at the Julia Friedman Gallery in Chicago. Doug is a founder and Chief Technology Officer of TransLumen Technologies, LLC. Their Fluid Stills Art Illusions are a new genre of art merging with technology. The art imbues each digital frame with the integrity of an independent artistic still that cohesively changes over time without any visible or detectable change as that change occurs, creating a serene, temporally streaming subthreshold ultra-slow motion video composition. This tranquil and harmonious art form obviates the visual noise and environmental disruption presented by some other digital art alternatives. Kicker is the main panel used in KDE before version 4. It can be customized by the user. By default, it has the K Menu, a Desktop Access button, a Home button, a Konqueror button, a Kontact button, and a Help button. It also has the Desktop Preview & Pager, the Taskbar, the System Tray, and the Clock.
It is a core part of the KDE desktop, and as such is packaged as part of the kdebase module.
In KDE 4, Kicker was replaced with Plasma.

Machine Head is the sixth Deep Purple studio album. It was recorded at the Grand Hotel Montreux, Switzerland in December 1971 with the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio, and released in March 1972.
The album is often cited as being very influential in the development of the heavy metal music genre. It is Deep Purple's most successful recording, topping the charts in several countries following its release. In 2001 Q magazine named it as one of the 50 Heaviest Albums of All Time.
Machine Head is the subject of one of the Classic Albums series of documentaries about the making of famous albums. Machine Head was released on the multichannel formats Super Audio CD (2003) and DVD-Audio (2001).

Original Recording
The conditions in which the original recordings were made are quite outstanding. Hiring the Rolling Stones Mobile One equipment and studios, the band recorded the entirety of the tracks in a Montreux hotel facility, with no overdubs. The "Smoke on the Water" lyrics' citation "Frank Zappa and the Mothers" refers to Zappa's show at a nearby casino. The casino burned down a few days before the start of scheduled Machine Head recording sessions.
A song entitled "When a Blind Man Cries" was recorded during these sessions, but not included on the album. Instead, it was used as a the B-side on the "Never Before" single. The song appears as a bonus track on the album's 25th anniversary edition.
The supporting tour for Machine Head included a trip to Japan that would later become the double-live Made in Japan album.

Business Activity
CB&I is a fully integrated EPC service provider, offering a complete package of conceptual design, engineering, procurement, fabrication, field construction, mechanical installation and commissioning. CB&I serves customers in the following industries: oil and gas; petrochemical and chemical; power; water and wastewater; and metals and mining. CB&I's projects include hydrocarbon processing plants, LNG terminals and peak shaving plants, offshore structures, bulk liquid terminals, water storage and treatment facilities, and other steel structures and their associated systems. CB&I also provides a broad range of maintenance and repair services, including complete turnarounds for petroleum refining and petrochemical plants.
History
CB&I was founded in 1889 in Chicago, Illinois, USA, as Chicago Bridge & Iron Company, when Horace E. Horton, a bridge designer, agreed to merge business with George and William Wheelock of the Kansas City Bridge and Iron Company.
While initially involved in bridge design and construction, CB&I turned its focus to bulk liquid storage in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, coinciding with the western expansion of railroads across the United States and the discovery of oil in the U.S. Southwest. CB&I quickly became known for design engineering and field construction of elevated water storage tanks, aboveground tanks for storage of petroleum and refined products, refinery process vessels and other steel plate structures.
CB&I supported the expansion of oil exploration outside the U.S., starting operations in South America in 1924, in Asia two years later, and in the Middle East in 1939.
Over the course of the company's history, CB&I developed many technologies and achieved a number of industry milestones, including the first floating-roof tank for the oil industry (1923), the first spherical pressure vessel (1923), the first double-wall LNG storage tank (1958), the first site-assembled thick wall steel nuclear reactor vessel (1966), the first marine LNG storage and distribution terminal in the U.S. (1971), the world's largest steel water reservoir (1986) and the world's largest vacuum distillation tower (1999), to name just a few.
CB&I Today
In late 2000, CB&I embarked on a series of acquisitions that have dramatically expanded its services to encompass the entire hydrocarbon value chain, from wellhead through processing and distribution. The new CB&I is a fully-integrated, full-service EPC company that can manage the entire scope of large-scale process plant design and installation projects, as well as turnkey storage facilities.

CB&I was recently awarded a contract by one of the world's largest suppliers of wind turbines to fabricate 150 tubular steel support towers for wind turbines that will be installed in wind farms in the western United States. The towers will support 1.5-megawatt wind turbines, which are the largest wind turbines assembled in the United States and the most widely sold and tested megawatt class wind turbines in the world.
CB&I completed its largest single acquisition to date with the purchase of Lummus Global from ABB on November 19, 2007, adding approximately 3,000 employees to the CB&I family of companies.
